Hope in the Heartland Conference in Wichita Kansas, October 10-11 - $25 includes food and time for networking with other survivors & advocates

Janet Patterson has put together a third annual Hope in the Heartland Conference for two days next month. Stay in Wichita at one of many inexpensive hotels and ride over to the Baha'i Center for breakfast, mingling, listening, more mingling, then a long lunch and more mingling.

"Conference for abuse survivors and their supporters (sexual, spiritual, physical, emotional, verbal abuse, etc.)" reads the flier. Hope in the HeartlandOct. 10-11, 2008 at Baha’i Center, in Wichita Kansas. Here is the schedule:

FRIDAY, OCT. 10, 2008
6 p.m. registration/pizza party
7 p.m. open mike session 1 to 1 ½ hours
8:30 p.m. Kansas adult clergy abuse survivor
9 p.m. approx. closing

SATURDAY, OCT. 11, 2008
8 a.m. continental breakfast/registration
9 a.m. conference opening—welcome
9:15 a.m. speaker: Colorado clergy abuse survivor
10 a.m. break—snacks, drinks provided
10:15 a.m. speaker—Kansas incest survivor/foster care survivor

11 a.m. lunch (provided)—time to visit with others, to network, to ask questions
12:30 p.m. general discussion: grooming, boundaries, speaking out,
empowering ourselves, recovery helps/aids/techniques, etc.
1:15 p.m. break—snacks, drinks provided

1:30 p.m. Two Kansas speakers about parental verbal abuse One speaker will also share her experience as a Native American. The other speaker will
detail personal experiences of abuses in social services/foster care/judicial/ legal areas.

2:15 p.m. break—snacks, drinks provided

2:30 p.m. stress relievers—dammit dolls, funny stories, group activities
3:30 p.m. break—snacks, drinks provided
3:45 p.m. California clergy abuse survivor speaking on blogging/journaling as therapy and on the Los Angeles settlements.

Open mike session will follow.
5 p.m. dinner (provided)—time to relax, visit, network, etc.
6 p.m. question/answer session
6:30 p.m. short video

7 to 8 p.m. wrap-up session, feedback, suggestions, input, etc.

Hope and the Heartland takes place smack in the center of the USA, which makes sense to me, since these perpetrators lurk everywhere.
